Michelle Wallace is an herbalist, gardener, and artist who explores and relates to Vermont's natural beauty in a unique way. Exploring the forests, fields, and gardens surrounding her home, she gathers flowers, seeds, leaves, and other plant materials to create nature mandalas. Mandala is a Sanskrit word for circle that traditionally has been used as an aid to meditation. For her, this impermanent art is a meditation on noticing the plants throughout the seasons, their exquisite details and symmetry. Each mandala may last only a few hours or a few days. She selects one photograph and then casts the mandala into the winds with a one-word intention or prayer.
