This month we will feature Lydia Gatzow. To learn more about our Art in the Café program, click here.
Field Studies is a series of landscape oil paintings that show a direct and pure response to the mood, light, color, and form of Lydia's immediate surroundings. She is particularly interested in how these elements coalesce and favors the felt over the observed. She employs the technique "alla prima" wet on wet, in her paintings. The surfaces reveal expressionistic, loose mark making, with sections of paint sculpted by a palette knife. The scenes reflect the scenic beauty, sacred energy, and grounding simplicity of living off the land and the base of the mountains on the Good Heart Farmstead.
