I am proud of our co-op. Last year confirmed that fact for me. Our small community-based business continues to operate successfully in the hyper-competitive grocery market, producing positive benefits across a triple bottom-line of environmental, financial and social values.
I hope that you share my pride when we reflect on some of our accomplishments in 2016:
• Sales of local products grew 17% last year with purchases from our VT vendors reaching $9 million.
• Each of our 168 employees earned at least the Vermont Livable Wage by year end.
• We achieved a 6% decrease in overall energy usage compared to the prior year.
• Our cooperative is now owned and democratically governed by over 8,000 members.
And there is more. I encourage you to read our 2016 Impact Report and give us your feedback. Please let us know how we are doing and how we can do better.
Together as a community, we make this happen. Together we will continue to make progress towards our ambitious mission to build a “dynamic community of healthy individuals, sustainable local food systems, and thriving cooperative commerce.” Thank you for your support and the opportunity to be of service.
Happy New Year!
