This Friday, Dec. 21, we will have an educational wine and cheese tasting from 3-6pm in the center of our store.
For this pairing, we will feature a selection of Tempranillo wines, Flaco Tempranillo, Campo Viejo Rioja Tempranillo, Ramon Bilbao Tempranillo, and Flor del Montgo Organic Tempranillo. Called “Spain’s #1 wine grape” by some, this wine variety can be fresh and fruity when young, but develops bolder, deeper flavors as it ages, especially when aged in oak. Now one of the most-planted varieties of grape in the world, it’s believed that it’s been grown for thousands of years in Spain and Portugal. The flavor profile of this versatile wine can include strawberry, cherry, dried fig, cedar, tobacco, or vanilla.
Tempranillo will be paired with a Spanish Manchego El Trigal Aged 1 Year. Considered one of Spain’s most well-known sheep’s milk cheeses, Manchego, made in the La Mancha region, always from the milk of Manchega sheep, has become a much-loved cheese worldwide. This comparatively young one-year Manchego will be milder than longer-aged varieties, with a savory, slightly nutty flavor and a hint of sharpness. It’s also extremely versatile and pairs well with wines, beer or a variety of accompaniments, including roasted tomatoes, figs or fig jam, quince paste, Marcona almonds or prosciutto.
We hope to
see you on Friday from 3-6pm for this exciting Spanish pairing.
