From the General Manager – Dec. 30, 2020
I want to express heartfelt appreciation to the whole community for a successful holiday season here at the Co-op. From our members and shoppers to our employees and local suppliers, everyone contributed so that we could safely provide what folks need from the Co-op. I guess it should not have been a surprise given our focus on cooperative principles, especially the 7th Principle: Concern for Community. As I told our staff at Thanksgiving, this community effort has been amongst the proudest experiences of my 22 years in the grocery business.
We have much to look forward to in 2021. Operationally we will continue to improve our systems to serve the community safely. For example, next week, we will begin constructing a wind block to protect shoppers while waiting outdoors. We will continue to fine-tune our Curbside Pick-Up program, which we launched in April and is now a significant component of our business. With emerging vaccines, we can start to foresee a post-pandemic future, and we will develop plans to address the many opportunities to build on our cooperative principles and values.
Our cooperative governance renews every year. Starting next week, we will have a new Co-op Council, including five new members. The team will get to know each other as they move forward with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, proposed revisions to the bylaws, and other important issues.
Thank you for helping us raise more than $20,000 and nearly 1,000 pounds of food for the Vermont Foodbank through our Neighbors Helping Neighbors campaign. It was a critical response to the surge in food insecurity in our central Vermont community. Starting Tuesday, Jan. 5, our Give Change register round-up program will benefit Capstone Community Action‘s Fuel Your Neighbors campaign, raising funds to support their food shelf and heating assistance program. Let us know if you would like to be asked to round up your total to the next dollar when shopping.
Thank you!
Kari Bradley, General Manager
