March is Maple Month

With a new year, and new possibilities underway, the coming of spring feels even more powerful. Sugaring season brings longer days, milder temperatures, and the first stirrings of the natural world. What better way to celebrate than with the bounty of maple syrup! While the simple raw sweetness of syrup is a delight on its own, we carry many products that use this Vermont staple to complement other flavors. Check out these iterations of Vermont’s signature sweet.   

Rogers Farmstead in Berlin, VT, makes an organic, whole milk yogurt sweetened with organic, Vermont maple syrup. 

Quaker Hill in Randolph, VT, makes maple-sweetened cashew granola available in our bulk department and comes highly recommended by Terry, our bulk buyer. 

Tierra Farm in Valatie, NY, has a line of maple-glazed cashews, mixed nuts, pecans, and walnuts. 

Jed’s Maple Cream in Derby, VT, makes an extremely versatile organic maple cream, which can be used on toast, in smoothies, or as a dip for fruit or snacks. 

Trade Winds Farm in Shoreham, VT, makes bulk granola sweetened with their own maple syrup, and a maple spice rub that can be used to marinate seafood such as salmon or meats like chicken, pork or beef. 

Vermont Maple Sriracha in Rutland, VT, makes a hot sauce with local maple syrup, fresh peppers, and garlic to add “sweet and savory heat to any dish.” 

Sweet on Vermont in Burlington, VT, makes a Vermont maple brittle with almonds and Vermont chocolate-dipped maple brittle with almonds. 

Vermont Salumi in Plainfield, VT, makes a maple breakfast pork sausage that is a favorite of Nick, our meat and fish buyer. He says it’s “a hearty way to start the day before you go out and check the buckets to see how the sap is running.” 

Morse Farm in Montpelier, VT, makes a variety of maple products, including pure maple granulated sugar. Try it as a wonderfully sweet alternative to regular sugar in your coffee or tea. 

Benito’s Hot Sauce out of Morrisville, VT, is known for their hot sauce, but they also bring the heat to maple syrup. Try their chipotle or habanero and ghost pepper infused syrups when you want a bit of zip with your sweetness. 

North Country Smokehouse in Claremont, NH, makes excellent Smoky Maple Links that add hearty goodness to your breakfast. 

Our Co-op-made maple spiced nuts, using locally made Slopeside Syrup, goes great with fresh cheese and berries or all on its own. Find it in the bakery case with the other freshly baked store-made treats. 

Don’t forget to check our beer and wine department for seasonal selections featuring maple flavors.  14th Star Maple Breakfast Porter and Champlain Orchards Mac and Maple are just two examples of how our local brewers celebrate spring.  

Snow Farm Fox Hill maple wine and Boyden Valley Winery’s Vermont Maple Reserve put a classic Vermont twist on wine. Raise a glass in a toast to springtime!
