Meet Your Candidates for Council
Join us for a Council Candidate Forum on Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at 6 pm.
Council Elections—Come to the candidate forum on October 25
All members are invited to meet the Co-op Council candidates at a forum on Friday, Oct. 25, starting at 6 pm at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center (58 Barre Street). Past Council President Scott Hess will moderate the forum.
It’s now a non-competitive election for next year’s council, with six candidates running for six positions on the council. So why bother to get to know them better at the candidate forum? Because the job of council members is to represent you, the members, while looking out for the best interests of the Co-op.
The elected representatives are accountable to the membership. It’s important for the candidates to lay out their visions, values, and priorities for our co-op, and to listen to other members lay out their own. You can ask questions and offer feedback that can guide the council in making decisions aligned with the needs of our community. And you can build connections by engaging with the people who will represent the membership.
Light refreshments will be served. The forum will be recorded by ORCA Media, so you can watch it afterwards, if you aren’t available at the time. We request that you register if you intend to go to the forum, but registration is not required to attend.
You can get to know the candidates and their reasons for running at the display near the registers in the store and on the website. If you want to submit questions for the candidates, you can do so at the display in the store, on the registration page for the forum, or by email.
Voting begins at the Annual Meeting on November 7.
Wrap-Up
With Halloween coming up, it was only a little surprising to see a skeleton (not a skeleton costume) shopping at the Co-op. It wore a grin of anticipation as it bought a case of beer—and a mop.
And I’m thinking of writing a note to our Bulk department to be prepared: What do vegetarian zombies eat? Graaaains!
—Carl Etnier, Council President
