Customer Question: Could you please carry organic Kid Clif chocolate mint Z Bar.

Q: Please continue to carry Organic Valley soy milk - unsweetened.  You used to sell it until a couple of months ago.  It is a better brand than Silk.  Thank you!

A: Thank you for your input! This product was discontinued in may of 2017 which was just before I started.  From what I can tell, it looks like we chose to keep the Silk because it sold much faster than Organic Valley.  We would be happy to help you special order a case for a 10% discount.  -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

Q: Please restock Special Spice!

A: Thank you for you for your input! I will speak with the buyer about ordering more of this product. -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

Q: Please pull old, stale bread.  We shoppers don't want old, stale bread.  Thanks!

Q: I would like to recommend that Hunger Mountain carry the line of products by Ziggy Marley Organics.  I have been working with the Marley family to promote organic farming in Jamaica.

A: Thank you for your input! I am having trouble figuring our what line of products you mean - is it the coconut oil and hemp seeds? I couldn't find too much information about these products or how to contact them about distribution.  If you have any other details or contacts, I would love to look more into this. -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

A: Thank you for your input! We are planning a reset of our frozen desserts for the spring (early April) and will consider adding this at that point. -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

Q: Please carry Booth Brothers skim milk.

Q: SunButter makes a "no sugar added" sunflower butter that is non-organic.  I know you already carry an organic sugar free sunflower butter, but it is relatively expensive and I am assuming the non-organic version would be more affordable.  Can you consider carrying the sugar free, non-organic version? Thank you for considering this request.

A: Thank you for your input! Unfortunately, our distributor only carries the organic, natural, and chunky varieties from SunButter.  I will put in a request for the no sugar added variety. -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

Q: Vermont Cranberry Juice - Real Tart! With the Rosie the Riveter on it -- know the one?

A: Thank you for your input! This cranberry grower is the same one who provided local cranberries for our produce department.  A fresh product would need space in our refrigeration, which is tough to come by - but I will discuss this with our refrigerated buyer to see if he feels there is room or need for this. -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

Q: Pukka Tea

A: Thank you for your input! We are not looking to bring this tea in at this time.  However, we are happy to special order it for you and you can save 10% on a case. -Olivia, Grocery Buyer

Q: Pizza at the Deli!

A: We don't really have the proper equipment to effectively produce pizza at the deli. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Hi! The Deli containers are a problem--oops.  They don't stay closed and they leak --oops. Perhaps you could keep a dispenser by the napkins so customer could seal the boxes.
A: Consider it done! -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Free breakfast burrito after buying 10? Same as sandwich.

A: We don't do that simply because of the price point - $9 vs. $5. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Could you have a marking pen next to bulk olives? I didn't se one.
A: Yes we can. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: If only the salad bar could toast the sunflower seeds and sprinkle tamari on them makes a world of difference in the enjoyment of a salad.  Stone soup does.
A: Those are delicious but we try not to include any allergens on items that don't truly need them (soy) so that everyone can enjoy them -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: I love the prepared food at the deli but I've frequently found the beans in the breakfast burritos are way undercooked. Yuck!
A: We are now using pinto beans which are generally creamier so this shouldn't be an issue anymore. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Joe's Soups - strange, not good, tired! Enough already!

A: I am sorry to hear you are not enjoying them.  I hope you try our in house ones that we make regularly. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: What's with the humungous sandwiches? And you don't even sell half sandwiches - why?

A: It isn't something we currently offer but it is something we are considering.  Have you thought of sharing with someone or saving half for later? -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Please put some of the amazing local hot sauces on the food bar.  Butterfly Bakery.
A: Great idea! We will look into it and pick some. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Why would you offer roast turkey or chicken and mashed potato on the hot bar but veggie gravy? Ugh!
A: We offer both veggie and meat gravy typically but when only one it is with a vegetable stock so the vegetarians can enjoy it with the mashed potatoes as well. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Ceramic bowls for soup to reduce waste.

A: You can use our coffee cups! -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Thanks so much to the Co-op's bake for the pumpkin cheesecake in the café that is made with a GF/wheat-free bottom crust.  Also for not adding xanthan gum which is as bad as gluten and shouldn't be used in gluten-free products.

A: Thanks! You bet. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Put a sign up of what the hot food bar menu is of the day so you don't have to look over people's shoulders to know what it is! Just like sign for soup of the day or sandwich special.

A: Interesting idea - I will discuss this with team and see if that can work - wouldn't you still need to read the signs though? -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

A: The grab and go sandwiches have the same portion as any of our sandwiches. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: The kale in the buffet needs to be cooked a bit less.  Too much spoils the flavor. Thanks.

A: Thanks for the feedback. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

A: We do try to mix them up but I see we can always do better! -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Please bring back the seaweed salad you had last summer (nori).
A: It was one of the most complained about items we ever carried so I don't anticipate bringing it back. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: I ate the food bar simple slaw which had jalapeno peppers in it.  I suggest the Co-op should not serve simple slaw with hot peppers to the general public again.  Someone could have an allergic reaction to eating such hot peppers.

A: I am sorry for your experience.  Thanks for your concern.  We do label all items that contain one of the seven major allergens, though jalapenos are not considered an allergen.  When items are spicy we label as such to warn people, but that one is not considered to be so. -Doug, Prepared Foods Manager

Q: Keep bicycle area shoveled out - aren't we concerned about climate change? Bicyclists ride in winter! Also, why should I have to climb over a mountain of snow to park?

A: We are trying our best with the bike rack accessibility.  Unfortunately, there have been times where the weather has not cooperated, making access very icy if shoveled.  We also have a second bike rack in our receiving parking lot that is for use as well.  You may find this more accessible as another possibility.  Thanks! -Mary, Facilities Manager

Q: One of the "over 65" parking spaces is next to walkway/ropes where snow and ice accumulate.  Very dangerous for anyone, esp elders!
A: Thanks for pointing this out to us. We will keep a closer eye on this area. -Mary, Facilities Manager

Q: It appears that the coop is against only older workers.  Have worked here for years.
A: I guess I don't share your opinion.  The average age of a Co-op employee is 48.  The average tenure is about 9 years.  Employee turnover is very low for retail: 16% last year. -Kari, General Manager

Q: Please use the new monitor to warn the coop membership about council meetings.  Thank you!
A: Good idea.  We will start doing that. Thanks. -Kari, General Manager

Q: I love that you guys have ideas to inspire kindness.  I love your healthy options, I love the coop!

A: Thank you.  It's good to be loved.  Happy valentine's day.  -Kari, General Manager

Q: What is the status of the council review of the various discounts? The senior discount is regressive, low income seniors need the discount.  Middle and upper income members should not get a discount.  Members could self-certify their income.
A: We are wrapping up round 3 of our Co-op Conversations on member discounts and we will share a summary and our next steps in March.  We have hear a wide variety of opinions.  Many agree with you but many members do not.  Thank you for weighing in. -Kari, General Manager

Q: I would gladly give up so called member-owner appreciation discount days in order to ensure our dear seniors and low-income folks ate not capped out on their discount.  Have a heart, please!
A: Thank you for the input.  Two things to consider: 1) The total discounts from 3 appreciation days is less than 5% of the everyday member discounts (senior, co-op cares, working member and council). 2) Appreciation day discounts apply to all members. -Kari, General Manager

Q: Give 'em all a raise!
A: All Co-op employees receive at least one wage increase per year.  This year the average increase for union employees was approximately 3.4%.  Most managers received 2%. -Kari, General Manager
