  • Council Meeting

    The Co-op council generally meets once a month on the first Monday at 5:30pm via Zoom Meetings are open to all member-owners.

    The agenda for the next meeting, including date, time, and place, is posted in the council section of our website and in the exit way of the Co-op at least one week prior to the meeting.

    Meeting dates for 2022 are January 3, February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6, June 27, August 29, October 3, November 7, and December 5.

    There is no meeting in July or early August, and the September meeting is often held at the end of August. The council also hosts an annual membership meeting in early November to share information about the Co-op and hear from member-owners. In 2022 it will be held on November 10.

  • City Market Livestream: Camping Coffee with OGE

    Join City Market for another virtual installment of Backcountry Cooking classes, brought to you by OGE and City Market, all about that camping necessity: coffee! Their OGE backcountry chef will guide you through how to make coffee using a variety of methods so you’re sure to find the one that’s right for you. Get ready for a mouth-watering good time! They’ll also be discussing tips and tricks for packing appropriately and cooking in the cold.

    The class will be held on the Microsoft Teams platform; instructions for joining the event will be sent to participants in advance.

  • Oryana Co-op Online Class: Warming Winter Soups & Stews

    Ali Lopez, one of our newest employees, moved here from Michigan where she was teaching online cooking classes. We are pleased to announce that Hunger Mountain Co-op Members can now access these classes through Oryana Co-op in Traverse City. Meet Ali and learn about Warming Winter Stews!   

    Warm up body and soul with a hearty, homemade bowl of roasted vegetable soup. Or how about a customizable vegan chili with marvelous toppings? Join Chef Ali in her cozy kitchen where she will choose the best local ingredients available to make two delicious vegan dishes that will help you enjoy cold winter evenings. Ali’s recipes are uncomplicated, full of flavor, and satisfying. Add a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine and you’ll be all set! 

    $10 class fee  

    Register online. You will receive an email with recipes and class details two days in advance. After class, you will have access to a recorded version. You must have an email address to sign up.  Check out their other offerings while you’re there!

  • City Market Livestream: A Filipino Feast: Chicken Adobo and Puto

    Join City Market for a Filipino feast! In this class, you will learn how to make two traditional Filipino dishes. The first, Filipino Adobo, is the “national dish”, and is meat or vegetables marinated and braised in soy sauce, vinegar and peppercorns. We will also make Putong Puti, a rice flour muffin that is steamed instead of baked. This class will be taught by Maria Garrido. Maria was born and raised in Florida in a Chamorro and Filipino household. After living in Louisiana and San Francisco, she moved to Vermont in 2005 to attend the New England Culinary Institute (NECI) and was most recently at the Burlington School Food Project.

  • How to do a Carbon Inventory and Create a Climate Action Plan with Catherine Lowther

    Since Catherine Lowther joined the Goddard College faculty in 1997, she’s created the college’s BA in Sustainability Program and the Climate Literacy Course, chaired the Sustainability Committee, completed a carbon inventory for the college which helped them reach carbon neutrality in 2018.

    On Wednesday, Jan. 19 and Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 6–7 pm, Catherine will host a two-part online workshop about measuring and reducing the amount of CO2 emissions you and your family produce in a year.

    In the first session, Catherine will present information about measuring the emissions created by burning fossil fuels, the electricity we use in our homes, and the emissions created by activities like dietary choices and flying. Participants will then use this information to do a carbon inventory.

    In the second session, participants will share inventory results and create plans to reduce emissions.

    Upon registering, you will receive information about how to do your carbon inventory.

    Please register by Tuesday, Jan. 18.
