Compost Basics Workshop

Hunger Mountain Co-op
Address: 623 Stone Cutters Way

Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District provides leadership, education, and services for residents and businesses in reducing and managing their solid waste in order to protect public health and the environment to the greatest extent feasible. CVSWMD is working to end waste for good. While achieving a zero waste district may seem ambitious, we believe that by setting goals high, we can and will find ways to reach them. It's in the journey to zero waste that efficiencies are created, business is generated, jobs are created, and communities are bound together toward a common outcome. In recent years, we have watched with satisfaction as more and more solid waste entities finally get on board with Zero Waste initiatives and goals.

CVSWMD’s Outreach Manager Cassandra Hemenway will show you some easy ways to get started composting and do it successfully, and will review other ways to keep your food scraps out of the trash. You’ll learn strategies for jump-starting an old pile, how to keep smells down, and animals out. She’ll talk to you about managing food scraps, why they break down, and how to use food scraps as a resource in your own yard. Everyone goes home with a starter kit.

Space is limited and registration in advance is suggested. To attend this free workshop, sign up on the bulletin board in our exit way, call us at 802-262-3202 or use this online form.

All workshops are held in the Hunger Mountain Co-op community room unless otherwise noted, with access to a freight elevator upon request.

Hunger Mountain Co-op allows community members to offer workshops that align with our mission of promoting nutritional awareness, local sustainability, and environmental responsibility. These workshops are offered for the voluntary participation, education, and enjoyment of our community. Hunger Mountain Co-op has not reviewed every aspect of each workshop and the presenters do not represent the Co-op. Hunger Mountain Co-op is not responsible for any harm that may result from attendance at a workshop.
