Workshops & Events See what's happening in your community
Hunger Mountain Co-op exists to create and sustain a vibrant community of healthy individuals, sustainable local food systems, and thriving cooperative commerce. We host a variety of events, including member appreciation weekends, semi-annual truckload sales, product demos, and more. Check out the calendar below for all the details.
Co-op members are invited to join the Council’s monthly meetings. The community meal begins at 5 pm, followed by the business meeting at 5:30 pm. The full agenda is available online. Please call 802.262.3202 or email to confirm your spot.
Tour Ananda Gardens at its beautiful new location just outside of Montpelier. Learn about the farm’s operations and how they partner with gleaners. Join a discussion led by Alison Levin, Director of Community Harvest of Central Vermont to learn about how gleaning fits into their work to feed the community and is part of a healthy food system.
This free workshop takes place at Anada Gardens. The Co-op will not provide transportation, although participants are encouraged to carpool on their own. Participants should plan to get themselves to the farm to meet up at 6pm for the start of the workshop. A Co-op Community Relations team member will be there to greet you. The farm is located at 2416 Horn of the Moon Rd. in Montpelier, directions from the Co-op the the farm are here.

Presented by Rachel Kennedy, Green Mountain Transit, Sr. Transit Planner
Green Mountain Transit is finishing up a two year comprehensive system redesign. Capital Region changes are slated for implementation with the opening of the Taylor One Transit Center on Taylor St. in Montpelier, in August/September of this year.
We’ve been working hard at refining our plan, based on public comments, through several public outreach periods. We are in the final phase and would love to bring the final plan out to the Hunger Mountain Co-op Community, as part of a larger public outreach initiative, during the first two weeks in July. We will be presenting on changes, doing an interactive activity, and gathering public comment that will inform the final service change recommendations. Please join us, and help shape the future of transit in your region!

Presented by Theron Lay-Sleeper of CVSWMD and Eric Bachman of ORE

Originally conceived in the Netherlands, these community events are a place for people to share their knowledge and skills in repairing household items. Both the idea and practice are intended to foster re-skilling, community-building, and a stewardship of objects that reduces consumption and waste. Please join us to learn more and get involved in these events yourself.

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Woolf
Dining on exceptional food and reading an extraordinary book are two great pleasures, and we hope you’ll join us for a book club, co-presented by Kellogg-Hubbard Library, designed to bring those two joys together. Each month, we’ll read a work that is about or related to food, including both fiction and nonfiction books.
Titles for the rest of 2019 are:
August 22 – The Food Explorer: The True Adventures of the Globe-Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What America Eats by Daniel Stone
September 26 – The Last Chinese Chef by Nicole Mones
October 24 – Buttermilk Graffiti: A Chef’s Journey to Discovery America’s New Melting-Pot Cuisine by Edward Lee
November 21 – Gourmet Rhapsody by Muriel Barbery
December 19 – American Terroir: Savoring the Flavors of Our Woods, Waters, and Fields by Rowan Jacobsen
Kellogg-Hubbard Library can request copies of books through their Interlibrary Loan system, so if you cannot afford to buy the book or don’t want to buy it, you can get a copy at the library. You will need a library card in order to do that. Library cards are free for anyone who lives in Montpelier, East Montpelier, Berlin, Calais, Worcester or Middlesex. If you own a business in Montpelier, but live outside of the service area, you can get a free library card. If you don’t live in those towns, the annual fee for a library card is $40, $35 for people 65 and older.
If you would like to purchase a copy of the book through Bear Pond Books, please let us know. If five or more people order the book, Bear Pond will give you 20% off, but there have to be at least five ordered. If you’re interested, let us know as early as possible, so we can contact the bookstore and let them know how many books to order.
