Join us for Montpelier’s first Repair Café!

Saturday, March 30, noon - 4pm, at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center.

Got a beloved torn or broken item? Bring it to our Repair Café where a repair volunteer will work on it for free, while you observe and learn, and maybe even participate. There’s food, drink, information about fixing, and great company as well as a room full of repairers.

What to bring? Our volunteers specialize in: fixing furniture and wooden items, clothing and textile repair, mechanical items, jewelry, electronics, tools and computers.

This event is brought to you by The Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District, Onion River Exchange, Hunger Mountain Co-op, and the Montpelier Senior Activity Center.

If you would like to volunteer —as a repair person or otherwise—please let us know! http://www.cvswmd.org/volunteer.html

We are excited to be co-sponsoring Wild Edibles – Apple Edition with North Branch Nature Center

A bite of Vermont’s forgotten apples is a taste of history. Hiding in plain sight within almost every natural area and neglected back woods are abandoned apple orchards harkening to a bygone Vermont. What most nature walkers dismiss as “crabapples” are often the nearly extinct relics of the nineteenth-century heirloom varietals that made New England the global center of apple cultivation.

Join NBNC naturalists on a tasty exploration of re-wilded orchards to learn about the natural and cultural history of our venerable state fruit. We’ll do some wild-style apple picking, then return to the trailhead to press fresh cider and cook up our bounty. Led by NBNC naturalists and educators Sean Beckett and Ken Benton.

    $30 for NBNC Members / $35 for Non-members

Minimum age: 15 (or 12 with parent).
Must be able to hike off-trail on uneven forest floor up to a mile. Meeting location TBD within 15 minutes of NBNC.

    Please pre-register here

We are excited to be co-sponsoring this film screening and discussion which will take place at Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

One Town at a Time is a coming-of-age story that is firmly rooted in the community spirit that makes Vermont’s towns so special, including diverse voices from across the state such as Former Governor Jim Douglas and Ben & Jerry’s co-founder, Jerry Greenfield. You will hear from 251 Club members of all kinds and, after listening to their stories of traveling through Vermont, you’ll want to start exploring as well.
