Ben Cosgrove: Music of the Environment (IN-PERSON)

Ben Cosgrove is a traveling composer-performer whose music explores themes of landscape, place, and environment. His geographically-inspired music has been called “beautiful and fascinating” (The Maine Edge), “deeply impressive” (Independent Clauses) and “immediately evocative and fully arresting… brim[ming] with technical mastery and emotional capital” (Seven Days). His latest album, “Bearings,” was released in October of this year and has been called “delicate and beautiful,” the product of a “unique musical voice” (Mainly Piano). Ben also writes nonfiction, and his essays about place and landscape have appeared in Orion, Taproot, Northern Woodlands, Appalachia, and other publications. He has performed in every U.S. state except Delaware, collaborated with artists ranging from rock bands to string ensembles, and held artist residencies and fellowships with institutions including NASA, Acadia National Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, White Mountain National Forest, Harvard University, Middlebury College, the New England National Scenic Trail, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology.
