Join our Food Book Club
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Woolf
Dining on exceptional food and reading an extraordinary book are two great pleasures, and we hope you’ll join us for a book club, co-presented by Kellogg-Hubbard Library, designed to bring those two joys together. Each month, we’ll read a work that is about or related to food, including both fiction and nonfiction books. Titles for the rest of 2019 are:
June 18 – Cooked by Michael Pollan
July 25 – The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister
August 22 – The Food Explorer: The True Adventures of the Globe-Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What America Eats by Daniel Stone
September 26 – The Last Chinese Chef by Nicole Mones
October 24 – Buttermilk Graffiti: A Chef’s Journey to Discover America’s New Melting-Pot Cuisine by Edward Lee
November 21 – Gourmet Rhapsody by Muriel Barbery
December 19 – American Terroir: Savoring the Flavors of Our Woods, Waters, and Fields by Rowan Jacobsen
Kellogg-Hubbard Library can request copies of books through their Interlibrary Loan system, so if you cannot afford to buy the book or don’t want to buy it, you can get a copy at the library. You will need a library card in order to do that. Library cards are free for anyone who lives in Montpelier, East Montpelier, Berlin, Calais, Worcester or Middlesex. If you own a business in Montpelier, but live outside of the service area, you can get a free library card. If you don’t live in those towns, the annual fee for a library card is $40, $35 for people 65 and older.
If you would like to purchase a copy of the book through Bear Pond Books, please let us know. If five or more people order the book, Bear Pond will give you 20% off, but there have to be at least five ordered. If you’re interested, let us know as early as possible, so we can contact the bookstore and let them know how many books to order.
For any questions regarding the book club, please contact us at [email protected] or 802-262-3202.
