June Local Focus
Our community extends well beyond the walls of the Co-op. Each month, we shine the spotlight on a new group of local partners to help share their stories and celebrate their role in our community.
Featured Vendor: Apis Kombucha
Based in New Haven, VT, Apis Honey Kombucha is a blend of fine tea and local, raw honey, combined to create a “probiotic elixir of life carefully crafted using an heirloom culture that results in a refreshing and effervescent health tonic.” Read more about them here.
Featured Community Partner: Vermont Foodbank
The Vermont Foodbank, our featured community partner for the month of June, is Vermont’s largest hunger relief organization. Since 1986, they have been responding to the problems of food insecurity and the need for supplemental food assistance among low income households in central Vermont. Now with a network of 215 food shelves, meal sites, senior centers, and after-school programs, they provide food to families, children, older adults, and individuals at schools and hospitals across the state. Through their wide range of programs, they provide nutritious food and promote health, while becoming nationally recognized as one of the most effective and efficient nonprofits and food banks in the country. Read all about them and their many essential programs here.
Bag that Bag to Help a Neighbor in Need
Help support the Montpelier Food Pantry every time you shop at Hunger Mountain Co-op just by remembering your reusable bags! For each bag, basket or box that you use at the register, we will donate five cents to the Food Pantry. In May, this totaled $939.35 and saved 18,787 paper bags. Since July, you have helped to raise a total of $10,421.85 and saved 208,458 bags. Since launching this program in July 2016, we have donated $30,873.70 to the food pantry and replaced 617,495 paper bags. Read more about the work of Just Basics, Inc and the Food Pantry here.
