Good Samaritan Haven provides emergency shelter and support services, and offers stability, safety, and hope for people experiencing homelessness.
The volunteer program is primarily focused on food and other donations. Each month, they engage approximately 100 individuals through volunteer programs and partner businesses that support with meals, food, and supplies. They operate three brick-and-mortar shelters in Central Vermont—located in Barre City, Barre Town, and Berlin. If the pilot is successful, they plan to expand their garden-related volunteer opportunities to other shelter sites.
Volunteering Summary
Community Meal Providers
Community Meal Providers prepare and deliver a warm, nourishing meal to one of our shelter sites in Barre, Berlin, or Montpelier. Volunteers may cook on their own or gather friends, family, or colleagues to share the experience. This flexible role can be done weekly, biweekly, or monthly and offers a meaningful way to support guests through food, care, and connection.
Material Donations Volunteers
We offer two ways to support material donations. Whether you enjoy communication and coordination or hands-on organizing, there’s a role that fits your skills and availability.
Donations Communications & Scheduling Coordinators help behind the scenes by responding to donor inquiries, scheduling drop-offs, and coordinating logistics—mostly remotely.
Donations Sorting & Storage Volunteers support in person by sorting, organizing, and preparing donated items for use in our shelters.
