The Montpelier Parks and Trees Department supports our vibrant community of healthy individuals through providing access to the outdoors, recreational opportunities, and meaningful youth employment. We steward most of Montpelier’s publicly owned natural resources — over 500 acres of Parks and about 5,000 trees in the City’s right-of-way. We also run programs such as the Feast Farm and the Montpelier Youth Conservation Corps that build the fabric of our community and provide valuable services.
We support sustainable food systems through the Feast Farm, which provides produce to community meals programs and pantries, as well as agricultural education and experience to youth and other community members. We also have an urban forest program to grow more edible fruits, nuts and berries in public rights of way in the City.
Finally we support thriving cooperative commerce by promoting and supporting the outdoor recreation economy, providing job training for youth, and hosting major events (e.g. Enchanted Forest, Ice on Fire) that build community and attract visitors to town.
