Looking Back on the Year
Thanks to your purchases, we sold more than $12 million in local products this year, representing 37% of our total sales.
October is a season of reflection for us. As we begin working on our annual Impact Report, which will be released in December, we’re looking back on the year we’ve just completed, considering how we’ve advanced our mission and Ends, and identifying where we still have opportunities to grow.
We track a wide range of data to help measure our impact, and you’ll find much more detail in the Impact Report. For now, I’d like to share a few highlights that reflect the priorities and values we consistently hear from members and customers.
One theme we hear often is the importance of supporting local farmers, producers, and businesses. Thanks to your purchases, we sold more than $12 million in local products this year, representing 37% of our total sales. We also purchased more than $11.5 million in goods and services from 427 Vermont vendors, helping keep dollars circulating within our local economy.
We also hear from many of you about the importance of community support. This year, we provided more than $108,000 in donations and sponsorships, with the majority directed toward organizations working to improve food security in our region. Together, we are helping build a stronger and more resilient community.
Affordability continues to be another major concern, particularly as many households face rising costs. We work to address this in several ways. Our Co+op Basics program now includes more than 400 products offered at everyday low prices, helping make healthy food more accessible. We also provided more than $600,000 in member discounts this year, a 17% increase over the previous year.
As another way to create value for members while supporting local nonprofits, we launched our Member Volunteer Program. Through partnerships with 23 organizations, 104 participants contributed 925 volunteer hours to causes that strengthen our community. It’s an exciting example of how cooperation extends beyond the walls of the store.
Many of you have also asked for additional opportunities to save on your grocery purchases. In response, we’re trying a new program through National Co+op Grocers called Digital Deals. The program is easy to use, simply download the app or visit the website to access and print your digital savings code. Signing up only requires an email address.
I also want to address a question we’ve received from some shoppers. National Co+op Grocers does not sell or share your personal information through this, or any other program.
Once you’re signed up, you’ll find new Digital Deals throughout the store each week. Just look for the orange signs to discover additional savings on products across many departments.
Thank you for choosing to shop at your co-op. Every purchase supports local producers, strengthens our community, and helps us continue building a food system that reflects the values we share. We look forward to sharing more of this year’s impact with you in December.
