Alex Dickinson is a local photographer based in Montpelier. Through photography, Alex hopes to offer viewers a window into the beauty inherent in nature, inviting them to pause, notice, and appreciate the world around them. This exhibit features a diverse collection of landscapes, macro photography, and abstract scenes that reveal the intricate patterns and textures of the natural world. Many of the photographs capture liminal moments that mark the seasonal transition from summer to fall.

Alex photographs with a Nikon B500 and, for most of their work, uses upcycled and hand-restored frames and mats sourced from local secondhand stores, yard sales, and roadside finds. This exhibit, however, features primarily new framing materials.

Although Alex enjoyed drawing as a child, they rediscovered their creative side through writing in college. Inspired by philosophical and religious themes, Alex began exploring photography three years ago and more recently took up the practice of finding and restoring old frames.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Frida Kahlo, Bruce Lee, and family member and photographer Jeff Dickinson, Alex discovered photography during a pivotal period of life when art took priority over the pursuit of a steady paycheck. As a nature photographer, Alex embraces spontaneity, making the most of the places they explore and the fleeting moments they encounter to capture the natural world through their lens.
